Careers

Real assurance work, not one section of someone else's file

In a large firm, a junior CPA often runs the same working paper across thirty files. Here it is the whole engagement, from the first contact with the client to the presentation to the board.

The work

What a year here looks like

We are an assurance firm. That means audit, review, compilation and special engagements, in organizations of very different sizes and sectors.

Complete files

Planning, materiality, fieldwork, review, report. You see the full cycle rather than an isolated slice, and you understand why each procedure exists.

Genuine variety

A funded non-profit, a manufacturing business, a cooperative, a company under a regulated licence. The frameworks change, the issues change, boredom does not set in.

Direct access to the signing CPA

Your questions do not climb three levels before getting an answer. You work beside the person who signs the report, and you see how professional judgment is exercised.

Professional tools

Structured electronic working papers and a quality management system that meets the Canadian standards. You learn to document to the standard professional inspection actually tests.

Who we look for

The roles

We hire as needs arise, and we keep strong applications on file even when no position is posted.

CPA practical experience

A firm where assurance hours actually accumulate.

The assurance hours the Ordre requires are hard to accumulate in a firm that performs few audits. Here, assurance is the core of the practice, not a springtime activity. You work on complete engagements from your first season rather than one section repeated thirty times.

Engagement manager

CPA in progress or completed, with firm experience.

You own the engagement from start to finish: planning, materiality, fieldwork, preparation of the statements and the report. You deal directly with the client and you supervise the students assigned to the file.

This is where professional judgment develops, because you see the consequences of your planning decisions all the way through to the final report.

Director

An experienced CPA, comfortable with file review and client relationships.

You carry a client portfolio, you review files before they are signed, and you are the team's technical reference on standards and presentation questions.

You also take part in accepting new engagements, estimating fees and developing the practice. It is a role with real authority in a firm where decisions take two conversations rather than three committees.
